At First Baptist Centre we are deeply-invested in missions. We use Acts 1:8 as our guide: “The Holy Spirit . . . will give you power. Then you will tell everyone about me in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and everywhere in the world” (CEV).

Jerusalem: local missions

Our “Jerusalem” is Centre and Cherokee County. Our ministries include Summer in the Park outreach, benevolence ministries, Kids Blast, our Woman’s Missionary Union, local mission and church Brotherhood projects, and our English as a Second Language ministry.

Judea: state missions

Our “Judea” is Alabama. We minister to people in our state by giving to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes, the Meyers-Mallory State Missions Offering, and more.

Samaria: national missions

Our “Samaria” is the United States. We serve throughout our country through our annual mission trips to Alaska; our support of Agape Fellowship Church in Palmer, Alaska; and our church plant of Pine Knot Community Church in Pine Knot, KY. We also give to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American missions.

Ends of the earth: global missions

“Ends of the earth” means overseas. Each year members of First Baptist Centre take part in global mission trips. Several families in our church have recently gone overseas to serve as missionaries full-time. We also give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for Global Missions and cooperate with more than 40,000 other Southern Baptist churches by donations through the Cooperative Program.

As a church body, we embrace the “Acts 1:8 Challenge”. We believe in a comprehensive missions’ strategy where our members engage in intentional, worldwide, integrated, comprehensive, and year-round missions learning, prayer, giving, and going. Ultimately, we encourage and expect of all our members to get personally involved in the Great Commission – spreading the Gospel message not only in our surrounding area, but also in our state, our nation, and our world.

Once you have identified the focus area or project that you are interested in, the next step is to complete a Missions Participant Application (a Google Form) and corresponding signature pages (obtain from Church Office). The information you provide on this application helps our Missions Team match you with projects that fit your area of interest or expertise. After your application is reviewed, a member of the missions project team will contact you with additional information and instructions.
